Leafing
Red seeps into gold
Beautifully fleeting life
Let's leave with boldness

I wrote about the changing seasons into autumn and how the leaves leave their final mark of beauty in this world by changing their coats into vibrant and beautiful colors. I wanted it to be something people compare to their own lives–a reminder for people to do all that they can before life ends.

Puck
Perched like a bundt cake
With two little ears on top
Purrs as if fulfilled

I wrote about my cat because he was in front of me (the closest living thing to observe). He was looking outside in his loaf formation and I thought he looked like a cake. Cats don’t show expressions on their faces because they can’t let other predators see if they are injured, but when I see a slight smile on his face as I pet him, I feel very special!

Freedom
Wind sways and whispers thin
Rustling leaves like a hairbrush
Wind is beauty because it’s free
For this poem, I wrote about nature again, which aligns with Zen/Buddhist thinking. This one is in a 6-8-6 structure, which I thought was interesting. I wrote about why we think that wind is beautiful, even though it is just air. I paralleled wind to freedom because it does what it wants and “flies” through any crevice, which is something that many people desire.
